About us

Radcliffe Olympic might be a fairly humble entity in the grand scheme of the footballing world - but one proud claim we do have is that we've been around for longer than some of the biggest names in the beautiful game.

Our club was founded in 1876, which makes us 2 years older Manchester United (1878), 4 years older than Manchester City (1880), and a whole 16 years older than Liverpool (1892)!

Unfortunately though, much of our history is a bit sketchy. Life hasn't always been like the modern era when every waking moment is exhaustively documented... and while we're fairly sure there will have been all sorts of highs and lows and dramas during the many years that the club has existed, unfortunately we're not aware of anyone having properly documented it for the benefit of future generations! Well, there is a Radcliffe Olympic Wikipedia page that gives a bit of information and a few milestones - but who ever truly knows how accurate anything is on that particular site...

About us

Of course, it's entirely possible that there's someone out there sitting on a treasure trove of Radcliffe Olympic archive material? If you're that person, please get in touch! What trophies or league titles we may have won in what years is certainly very interesting - indeed, there's even information floating around online about us having had a player in the 1890s who went on to win international caps for England!

But way above and beyond all that, the one thing those of us who are current custodians of Radcliffe Olympic are most proud of is the simple fact that our club has been at the heart of our community for so long. It's been providing a platform for people to play football since a time when Queen Victoria was on the throne... which is pretty amazing when you think about it.

What's more, the club right now is as big as it's ever been. At the point of us heading into 2026 and our 150-year anniversary, we had 4 adult teams and 29 youth teams - a total of over 400 players all regularly representing our village on the football pitches of Nottinghamshire. Which is quite impressive really for a village of 8,000 people.

We are also proud to hold 2-star accreditation with the FA, recognition for our commitment to being an inclusive club that tries to give as many people as possible the opportunity to play football.
